Waiting for the perfect plan? The perfect time?
The perfect technique?
Spoiler alert: Perfection is a myth. And chasing it is a recipe for staying stuck.
There’s no such thing as perfect movement.
There’s only preparedness —your body’s current capacity for a given load, position, or challenge.
So what does that mean for you?
It means doing things poorly is a prerequisite for doing them well. Being bad at something is quite literally the first step towards becoming a master at it.
Most people think they need to master something before they even start. But the reality is the exact opposite: You get better by doing the thing — even when it looks rough at first. Especially when it’s rough at first.
This applies to virtually everything in rehab and training:
- Starting a new strength program
- Rebuilding after injury
- Tackling a movement that feels scary or unstable
Instead of aiming for perfect, aim for 80% good enough — and then do that consistently.
Remember the 80/20 rule: 80% of the results come from 20% of the effort.
You don’t need to overthink. You just need to start.
Even if you reps are messy. Even if the plan is “meh”. Even if you’re scared.
Because when you’re stuck, movement in any direction is better than waiting in place.
